Technical Consultant – IT Operations & AI Enablement

✅ Position Overview

The Technical Consultant – IT Operations & AI Enablement designs, builds, and deploys AI solutions across client environments while supporting training delivery and IT operations.

 

On the IT side, you will help run the IT environment for Simply Spatial, covering networking, virtualization, identity, endpoints, printing, security, and direct end user support.

You will also conduct assessments, architecture, implementation, migrations, managed services, and ongoing operational support for client environments. 

On the AI side, you will help configure AI environments, build and deploy agents, integrate AI tools with business systems, and support structured enablement programs that help clients adopt and use AI effectively.

 

This is a build-first consulting role. You will not just talk about AI. You will help configure it, deploy it, and support how it gets used in real-world operations. Simply Spatial’s AI enablement practice is differentiated by its integration of spatial intelligence into AI workflows, and candidates with exposure to ArcGIS tools will find opportunities to apply that expertise.

GIS knowledge and state and local government/critical infrastructure/commercial experience is a plus. 

This Role Blends

• Administering Windows Server, Active Directory, Hyper-V, storage, and enterprise backup

• Maintaining Cisco firewalls, VPN, wireless, and switching across multiple sites

• Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration, endpoint management, and end user support

• Delivering billable IT consulting and managed services to client organizations

• Building and deploying AI agents across Microsoft Copilot Studio, ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini

• Configuring AI environments across Microsoft 365 Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google Workspace, and API-based deployments

• Integrating AI tools with enterprise systems, data sources, and business workflows

• Delivering AI training workshops and enablement programs for client staff

• Contributing to client deliverables, documentation, and internal project coordination

✅ Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Virtualization

• Administer Hyper-V hosts and guests, including provisioning, patching, resource balancing, and failover testing

• Maintain Windows Server systems including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and file services

• Manage SAN and NAS storage, namespaces, and share permissions

• Own backup job health, retention, and restore verification

Network & Connectivity

• Maintain Cisco firewalls across multiple sites, including access policy, NAT, and site-to-site VPN

• Support remote access VPN deployment and troubleshooting

• Administer Cisco controller-based wireless, switching, VLANs, and RADIUS authentication

• Triage circuit and carrier issues with ISPs and vendors

End User Support & Endpoints

• Act as an escalation point for staff across our offices

• Image, deploy, and maintain workstations, laptops, and mobile devices

• Administer the print environment end to end, from desktop units to large-format plotters

• Support engineering and business applications, coordinating with vendors as needed

Security

• Maintain endpoint protection, patch compliance, and vulnerability remediation

• Support least-privilege and application control initiatives

• Assist with phishing simulation, security awareness training, and incident response

• Apply cybersecurity best practices related to access control, secure configuration, and data protection

• Review monitoring and alerting and act on findings

Client IT Consulting & Managed Services

• Deliver billable IT consulting engagements including assessments, architecture, and implementation

• Support client infrastructure, identity, and Microsoft 365 environments under managed services agreements

• Execute client migrations, upgrades, and hardware refresh projects

• Provide remote and on-site support for client environments, including escalation and root cause analysis

• Document client environments and produce handoff and as-built materials

• Scope engagements, estimate effort, and track billable time against client projects

AI Development & Deployment

• Design, build, and deploy AI agents using Microsoft Copilot Studio, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and similar platforms

• Configure knowledge sources, prompts, actions, and workflows aligned to client needs

• Connect AI solutions to SharePoint, Microsoft 365, APIs, and other business systems

• Test, troubleshoot, and improve agent performance across platforms

• Support deployment across Teams, SharePoint, web interfaces, and other client-facing environments

• Document solution design, configuration decisions, and handoff materials

AI Environment Setup

• Set up and configure Microsoft 365 Copilot environments for client organizations

• Support setup of AI environments beyond Microsoft 365, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google Workspace, and API-based deployments

• Help manage tenant-level AI settings, access controls, and governance-related configurations

• Monitor environment health, usage, and adoption metrics

Power Platform & Automation

• Build PowerShell automation for recurring administrative and operational work

• Design and maintain workflows in Power Automate connecting AI tools, Microsoft 365, and external systems

• Build and customize Power Apps to support operational workflows and AI-enabled solutions

• Work with Dataverse including data modeling, tables, relationships, and security roles

• Support Power Platform governance, environment management, and integration setup

Integrations & Data

• Build and support integrations across APIs, webhooks, and line-of-business systems

• Help structure, prepare, and manage content for AI ingestion and retrieval

• Apply concepts such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and grounding to improve outputs

• Support integration of AI tools with GIS platforms where applicable

Training & Enablement

• Deliver AI workshops, governance sessions, and role-based training programs

• Facilitate enablement for executive, manager, and frontline audiences

• Develop training materials, prompt libraries, use case catalogs, and adoption resources

• Track adoption progress, document outcomes, and support ongoing client engagements

Documentation & Project Support

• Write and maintain runbooks, network diagrams, and asset records

• Contribute to client deliverables and internal project coordination

• Participate in migrations, hardware refreshes, and upgrade projects

✅ Required Experience

Required Qualifications:

• 4-7 years of experience in systems administration, IT operations, consulting, or technology delivery

• Hands-on production experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy

• Production hypervisor experience. Hyper-V preferred, VMware acceptable.

• Practical networking ability including VLANs, routing, DNS and DHCP, firewall policy, and VPN troubleshooting

• Experience with Microsoft 365 administration and environments, including Exchange Online and Entra ID

• Backup and restore experience with a commercial backup product

• Familiarity with AI tools such as Microsoft 365 Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, and the ability to explain them to a non-technical audience

• Understanding of APIs and system integration fundamentals

• Exposure to AI concepts such as prompt design and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)

• Ability to problem solve and translate business needs into practical solutions

• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Comfortable working directly with clients and representing the firm on site

• Comfortable learning quickly in a fast-moving environment

• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between offices and to client sites

• Ability to lift and position IT equipment up to 50 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior consulting, managed services, or client-facing delivery experience

• Cisco firewall and VPN administration

• Cisco wireless controller administration

• PowerShell scripting beyond copy-and-paste

• Intune and modern endpoint management

• Experience building solutions using Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse

• Experience building against commercial AI APIs such as those for Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini

• Familiarity with AI frameworks such as LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or similar tools

• Exposure to RAG, vector databases, or knowledge base configuration

• Experience with Microsoft Purview, sensitivity labels, or data governance in support of AI environments

• Familiarity with AI governance or responsible AI practices

• Experience delivering training, workshops, or instructional content

• Familiarity with GIS and spatial data concepts, including ArcGIS tools such as ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, or other Esri products

• AEC, engineering, or professional services background

• Familiarity with engineering document control, project management, or markup platforms

• Large-format plotting and print server administration

• Experience working with government, utility, or public sector organizations

• Certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Security+, Microsoft associate-level, or Cisco CCNA
